Tastemasters is Cooking Again

Our new year starts Feb 10, 2012 at the IHop on S Mopac.  6:30 gathering, 7pm start time. 

After that, we’ll be announcing the upcoming meetings dates and locations – with the planned monthly meeting every 2nd Friday of the month. 

We are cooking up good things for 2012!  We’ll be announcing our line-up of after-dinner keynote speakers soon!  Our meetings will be a new and distinctive Toastmasters program with a TM meeting highlighting some of Austin’s best TM community-and-beyond speakers.  Professionals and champions will provide an after-dinner dessert sure to motivate and inspire our members and guests.  Stay tuned for line-up announcements!!

This week, it’s back to one of Austin’s long-time Toastmasters host restaurants, IHOP on Mopac.  Many clubs and many meetings have convened here over the years because of the great room, good service, good location, and comforting menu.

Minutes: Sept. 1, 2011

Subject:Minutes from last night’s Tastermasters business and regular meetings

Notes from the Tastemaster’s business meeting and regular meeting. 

The meeting began at 7:02 PM at El Mercado North

IN ATTENDANCE:

Officers: Bart Loeser (Pres.), Grace Jennings (VP-Membership), Kenneth Estes (Treas.), Scotty Burch (VP-Mktg), John Rempe (VP-Ed)

Also present: Marc Brewster, Ron Shaeffer (we met the requirement for a quorum)

Guest:  Barbara Kennedy

  • 1.     Proposal to nominate club representatives for the Fall ContestsJohn Rempe (Humor) & Ken Estes (Table Topics) at the next area contest being Wed, Sept 28th.  It passed unanimously
  • 2.     Proposal to set a permanent location for the 3rd Thursdayof each month at the IHOP at MoPac and Rollingwood) until further notice.  It passed unanimously
  • 3.     Grace addressed the importance in establishing Role Fulfillment for following meetings established well-before those meetings.  The VP-Ed (John) is responsible for that and will pass around list tonight.
  • 4.     Scotty suggested that club identify contest alternates in case they are needed (via email)
  • 5.     Ken Estes announced the launch of new FreeToastHost software with the new branding. Look for email
  • 6.     Ken mentioned that Membership Dues increase to $43.50 – get checks ASAP by end of Sept.
  • 7.     Grace thanked Scotty Burch for representing our club and District 55 in Las Vegas at International Championship in August.

The business meeting finished at 7:12 and was followed by our regular meeting

            Speaker 1:  Bart Loeser spoke “Mastering the Obvious” from “Specialty Speeches” manual, Project #1

            Speaker 2: John Rempe spoke on “What I Want To Be” Humorous Speaking” manual, Project #5

General Evaluator: Kenneth Estes introduced the 2 Evaluators

            Evaluator 1:  Scotty Burch

            Evaluator 2:  Barbara Kennedy

Ron gave the award for “Most Enthusiastic” to John Rempe

Scotty Burch won 2 awards for “Best Table Topics” and “Best Evaluator”

Bart Loeser won the award for “Best Speaker”

 The meeting ended at 8:15 PM.  The next meeting will be Thurs, Sept. 15 at the IHOP on Rollingwood.
